These Montessori-based, Black African history curricula, consisting of 45-60 pages, aim to avoid treating Black history as a distinct subject separate from the standard history taught. Instead, they aim to incorporate Black history into the broader narrative of history and provide a more complete understanding of the past.

They're chock-full of engaging discussion questions and fun, play-based activities to reinforce concepts. Aimed at children ages 5 and up, these unit studies can easily be customized for older children.

The Importance of Diversity and Representation in Toys and Media

“Characters who look more like they do, rather than imagined ideals, help kids build confidence, the foundation for leadership skills. But here’s the kicker — seeing toys that look like others (a different race, for instance) nurtures compassion.” – Craig and Marc Kielburger, Diverse Toys Could Help Children Become Compassionate Leaders, HuffPost

This free infographic helps guide you in assessing the diversity of your library of toys, books, and media, and the importance of toys and media that feature females, gay, transgender, and non-binary lead characters from various races and backgrounds.
